sto[lica]
The Serbian word for "chair" (столица, stolica) holds dual meaning when divided: "sto" (сто) translates to "hundred" and "lica" (лица) to "faces." This duality is the foundation of this analogue project, which uses chairs as powerful symbols of memory, presence, and transformation.
Each chair, whether pristine or worn, embodies a moment, a place, or a fragment of time in its unique state. Abandoned and often overlooked, these objects silently recount their life courses, reflecting the passage of time, individual journeys, and the collective human experience. Like "a hundred faces," each chair represents a multifaceted narrative, inviting us, viewers to consider the evolving identity and history embedded within the simple form of a chair.
Through this project, the chairs serve not merely as objects but as storytellers—mirroring the shifts, absences, and resonances in the spaces they once inhabited and the lives they once served.
