I’m Jovana, a Serbian-born artist and designer based in Munich, with a background in archaeology and a deep interest in the intersection of nature, humans, and material culture.
In 2015, I founded spora_herbarium—a research-based artistic practice that explores the relationships between humans, flora, and cultural memory. My work often begins with field journeys, usually to remote landscapes where I collect organic material, document ephemeral experiences, and preserved them through herbariums, cyanotypes, and analog photography.
Practice is rooted in curiosity, intuition, and a desire to participate in the quiet narratives that nature offers. Plants serve as both subject and tool—silent witnesses carrying ecological, emotional, and symbolic significance. Through processes of recomposition and transformation, I create speculative ecosystems and functional objects, combining scientific observation with artistic approaches.
I draw inspiration from cultural anthropology, psychology, and cinema, playfully navigating the boundaries between humans, culture, and nature. I'm trying to expand my knowledge of self awareness, others, nature, and the mysterious ways these three entwine.
